About

Artist Statement

Like most artists, there are several factors that influence my work as a photographer and graphic designer. My training and practice in painting facilitate free associations that are reflected in my images and enables me to work intuitively with my subject matter. Working in Brownfield affords me access to diverse contrasts in nature, in particular the bird-life and bog-life which are primary sources for my images.

Just as a painter brings different elements into his/her work I use advanced digital imaging techniques to stretch visual boundaries. I can combine traditional photographic subjects, such as birds, landscapes and flowers with different substrates such as cloth, canvas, transparency film and plexi. By combining the primal form of a bird with the graphical elements in a landscape and by using shapes, textures, lighting and the interplay of shadows, I am attempting to expose my audience to a new visual language and experience.
